March 8th marks International Women’s Day. It’s a day to support women, discuss issues, fight against gender inequities, and address systemic injustices women must fight through to get the same opportunities that men are automatically afforded. As over 60% of business owners are men, I wanted to share some of my favourite women-owned businesses that I’m sure you’ll love. I also encourage you to leave some of your go-to women-owned businesses in the comments! Let’s get started.

1. The Body Shop

I’ll take you to The Body Shop, I’ll let you lick the lollipop. We LOVE TBS! Name another beauty brand doing everything TBS is doing. You can’t. We’re talking fantastic quality hair, makeup, body, and fragrance lines, all for super affordable prices. Lately, my favourite product from TBS is definitely the Ginger Scalp Care Shampoo. Dandruff girlies, listen up; Head and Shoulders has nothing on this shampoo! It also helps you get 20% off as an SPC+ member and 15% off as an SPC member in-store and online.

2. Prados beauty

You must live under a rock if you haven’t heard of Prados Beauty. Founded and owned by an indigenous woman of the Piro-Manso-Tiwa people, a portion of all Prados Beauty proceeds goes to charities and causes that support Indigenous communities. As well as all the great work they do for their community, their products are also stunning and well worth the money. The eyeshadow pallets are some of the best out there. The pigment is rich, the colours are so beautiful, and they’re produced sustainably and cruelty-free to make things even better. We could go on all day, but you should check them out yourself.

3. OUI the People

I’ve struggled to find a shaving regime that works for me. That is until I started using products from OUI the People. They say it best themselves “Skincare for Every(BODY).” So let me put you on to this razor y’all. The single blade is a game changer for ingrown hairs and razor burn, plus you can use it on any part of the body, face included! As somebody with dry skin and “strawberry legs,” the Resurfacing Body Serum by OTP is the only thing I’ve used that has helped it. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but spending a little more is justified to see results when it comes to skincare.

4. RW & Co

I’m obsessed with the fact that Reitmans changed their company name to Reitwomans for all of March in honour of International Women’s Day. Sarah Reitman founded Canada’s iconic Reitmans clothing store and founded Pennington’s and RW & Co. I personally think RW & Co is slept on. Every time I walk in, I walk out with a haul. It’s gotten to the point where I have this coat in 2 colours now. Here’s the link since we don’t gatekeep on here. They are an excellent choice for business and semi-casual and perfect for students starting their first in-office jobs! Plus, their prices are well worth it. It also helps that SPC+ members get 15% off, and SPC members get 10% off!

5. Touchland

I don’t know about you, but the smell of alcohol hand sanitiser is enough to bring me right back to first-year university. Suffice it to say, I’m sick of crappy hand sanitiser. That brings me to my point; Touchland is changing the sanitiser game. Keep your hands clean and smelling nice without drying out your skin. With packaging that’s Insta-worthy, Touchland sanitisers are made for people who care about their health but also care about style. Plus, they’re big on community. They have donated more than 1,000,000 hand washings to public schools.

6. STIL

Whether you’re an all-star organizer or need some help, STIL will be your new best friend. As a female-owned business from Vancouver, STIL specializes in planning and structure but in an aesthetically pleasing way. With many products, from daily journals to handbags, we’re positive you’ll find your next favourite product here. Their vegan leather-bound planners are g o r g. However, I adore their “Build your kit” Because it’s so nice to have options instead of a one style fits all approach. Perfect for students, these planners will be the newest trendy thing for stationery lovers.

7. Saje

Saje is one of my favourite brands ever. I can’t count how many times I’ve recommended Saje products to friends and family or proclaimed my love for them to strangers on the street. Their headache kit is a godsend for people who deal with chronic migraines. I use it religiously and couldn’t imagine my life without it. However, all the products I’ve tried from Saje have been well worth the money. Another favourite is the Pocket Pharmacy and diffusers. Save 15% as an SPC+ member and 10% as an SPC member.
